Is the “Demerger” really happening?

YES! Starting the 2024 - 2025 school year.

What student grade levels will be impacted?

All students PK - 9th living in Edgecombe County will attend Edgecombe County Public Schools. All Pre-K , Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades will transition in 2024. 

What is the plan for 9th-grade students in 2024-2025?

9th-grade students will have a unique educational experience at North Edgecombe High School. 

What is the plan for 10th - 13th grade students?

Students who will be in grades 10, 11, 12, and 13 school year will continue as “legacy students” within Nash County Public Schools until they graduate. If they decide to join ECPS they will attend North Edgecombe High School. Complete the following process before 3.22.24

What is the plan for 6-8th grade students that live in Edgecombe County?

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 that live in Edgecombe County will attend Parker Middle School.

Does this affect ALL Edgecombe County students or just students who attend Fairview, D.S. Johnson, Baskerville, and Parker?

ALL students who live in Edgecombe County and attend NCPS schools will be part of the merger. As of May 2023, there are Edgecombe County Students in every elementary and middle school in NCPS.

If my child currently attends or is zoned for Fairview, D.S. Johnson, Baskerville, and Parker, is that the school they will attend in 2024-25?

The current community and district recommendation is that the school configuration remains the same. Students will be assigned using the 2023-24 NCPS attendance boundaries. Final decisions will be made by the ECPS Board of Education. 

Will ECPS provide transportation?

ECPS will provide transportation for all students living in Edgecombe County and attending school in ECPS, starting in August 2024.

Will students have extracurricular activities and sports?

Yes. ECPS is committed to providing the best educational and extracurricular experiences for our new students. HS students will play sports at North Edgecombe HS (pending board approval).

Do I have an option to “opt out” or “opt in” to ECPS?

All PK - 9th grade students living in Edgecombe County will be assigned to Edgecombe County Public Schools. Nash and Edgecombe Counties will offer the traditional transfer student option in which families have to apply. Families are responsible for transportation and tuition if approved. 

Will my students have new principals, teachers, bus drivers, and other staff?

ECPS invites staff to apply to continue to serve the Edgecombe community.

Every student who attends Edgecombe County Public Schools will have:

Can my child apply to the ECPS Schools of Choice?

Yes. Depending on their grade level, students can apply to 

  • Martin Millennium Academy

  • Edgecombe Early College High School and EDGE Academy High School (applications due 1.19.24)
