Community Relations

Responsibilities

The Community Relations Department serves as the public relations and communications office of the school district. The department functions as the primary contact and source of information about the district for the public, the news media, and District employees.

Our department highlights the accomplishments of the District through press coverage, publications, and special events. We also make use of the District website to share information about our District.
Additionally, the department serves as the source of reliable information during emergencies and times of crisis.
Our department is responsible for:

  • Communications, internal and external

  • Community relations activities

  • Crisis and emergency communications

  • District-wide community service projects

  • Donations to the District

  • ECPS District Calendar

  • Education Access Channel Three on SuddenLink Cable

  • Fine Arts Program support

  • Media relations

  • News releases

  • Parent-Teacher Organization support

  • Partnerships with business and industry

  • Public information requests

  • Special events and awards programs

  • Telephone notification systems, ConnectED, and the What's Happening line

  • Volunteer support

  • Webpage management

ECPS Employee of the Month

Each month, Edgecombe County Public Schools will recognize a full-time district employee, including classified and licensed employees as the ECPS Employee of the Month. The awarded employee will be recognized at that month’s Board of Education meeting.

Criteria

  • Demonstrates excellence in performance – going above and beyond job expectations

  • Has performed a distinguished deed

  • Makes a difference to ECPS and/or to members of the school community

  • Excels as a team player

  • Practices Innovative problem solving

  • Serves as a role model for advancing the goals and mission of ECPS

Process

Complete the Nomination Form, found on the district website (under Departments – Community Relations – Forms) specifically describing an action the nominee took and how this action meets one or more criteria for the award. Please provide specific examples.
Forms should be completed and submitted by the 15th of each month.
Keep a copy of the Nomination Form and send the completed form via either of the following modes:

  • Inter-office mail,

  • Email to Susan Hoke at Email Susan Hoke, or

  • Fax (252) 641-5714 to the attention of Susan Hoke.

The form will then be considered and reviewed by Cabinet.
